Disability support worker assisting an NDIS participant

About this service

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support that helps participants live as independently as possible in a shared or individual home environment. SIL includes the supports workers provide — such as personal care, household tasks, and skill development — rather than the cost of rent or housing itself.

Able Aide delivers SIL supports that prioritise safety, dignity, and participant choice in daily routines and household dynamics.

Frequently asked questions

Does SIL funding cover rent?
No. SIL funding covers the support workers and services provided in the home. Rent, board, and other day-to-day living costs are separate and typically funded through other income sources such as the Disability Support Pension and Commonwealth Rent Assistance.
What is the difference between SIL and SDA?
SIL is funding for the supports provided in a home. SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) is funding for the physical dwelling when a participant has extreme functional impairment or very high support needs requiring specialist housing design.
Can Able Aide provide SIL in an existing home?
SIL can be delivered in various housing arrangements including shared homes and individual tenancies, subject to your SIL funding and housing suitability. Contact us to discuss your situation.
